'''Abstract:''' The relationship between Marxism and twentieth-century Chinese Buddhism is an important issue in the history of twentieth-century Chinese culture. This article focuses on the distinct standpoints of different ideological subjects, discussing Marxist views on Buddhism and Buddhist views on Marxism, and providing a general overview of the relationship between Marxism and twentieth-century Chinese Buddhism. The article argues that the similarities in theoretical thinking, and the contrasting fundamental pursuits, between Marxism and Buddhism are the reasons for a series of engagements and conflicts between the two.
